This handmade lathe product is made of Finnish curly birch.
The product is suitable for refining spices and herbs.
A model of this lathe product was brought by a Finnish soldier as a gift for his youth from the Karelian Isthmus during the Continuation War, also known as Second Soviet-Finnish war. During the station warfare phase, when there was less actual combat activity, there was also time left for "spare time crafts" such as this product. These crafts were initially made in secret from superiors, but as the station warfare phase continued, they were even made under supervision.
The product has been treated with fully drying wood oil on the outside and also on the top part of the inside. The bottom of the inner surface and the crusher part of the shaft are untreated. The inner surface of the mortar can be cleaned with a dry brush and a damp towel can be used to clean the exterior.
